Using "jplot"

Downloading

Get the ZIP archive containing jplot from: http://www.tcptrace.org/jPlot/download/jPlot-1.0.2.zip

Unpack the ZIP file into a directory/folder under your home directory or "My Documents" area. For convenience, put the XPLOT graphics files (extension .xpl) in that same folder.

Windows

Get and install java from http://www.java.com/en/download/help/windows_manual_download.xml#download

Instructions are at: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Display a graphics file from the command line:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java -jar jPlot.jar someXplotFile.xpl

If you do this a lot, you will probably want to change your PATH settings to include java, as described in: http://www.apl.jhu.edu/~hall/java/beginner/settingup.html

That simplifies the display command to

java -jar jPlot.jar someXplotFile.xpl

Mac and Linux

On the Mac, java should already be installed. On linux you may need to get it via your favorite package manager. Then use

java -jar jPlot.jar someXplotFile.xpl
